About Employee Ownership
We all have experienced working for companies that have a top to bottom structure, which almost universally has a built in conflict between employee and employer, worker and manager. Employee Ownership changes that dynamic and when properly structured can provide an enriching experience in terms of rewarding work and increased wealth from that work. An employee owned company should exist to provide for the happiness of the owners. At Professional Home Projects that is what we value and are working toward.
Wages
Our goal is that every employee is paid at, or above, a living wage.
Wealth
Wealth generally grows faster than inflation and as the company grows so will the value of the stocks the owners hold. Employee/owner value will grow, or decline, as the company goes through growth phases.
Employee owner governance
When properly structured employee owners can vote on management policies and long term strategies. They can make decisions about compensation structure, use of surplus funds, removal of poor managers, community responsibility and engagement, Open Book Management, and much more.
Employee investment
There will be no need to invest monetarily to become an employee owner. After an investment of time, stocks can be issued based upon the wages earned throughout a fiscal year. Our goal is that by the time of retirement all owners will be millionaires with a stable retirement investment portfolio. If any leave the company earlier than retirement their value can be transferred to other financial assets.
Team culture
Establishing a culture of mutual respect, performing work that is meaningful and dignified, growing in knowledge and wisdom, is an experience that contributes to the happiness of everyone. Being a team member means holding yourself accountable to be diligent in your work, being aware of how your behavior affects the company profits and therefore your future financial security, and leading others to be likewise diligent. At Professional Home Projects we practice “no fault problem solving”. Everyone makes mistakes so the best approach is to address mistakes with that truth in mind, respectfully examine what happened and how to constructively address the problem so that we can perform better in the future, and not see critical examination as a personal insult. Team culture does not come automatically – we must work to achieve and maintain it.
